Folk Magic, Superstition, and Charms: Now Available!

This book is a miscellaneous compilation of many types of occult lore, revolving mostly around folk magic, simple charms, and superstition, including sections on talismans and summoning demons. It includes, as always, an expansive preface tying the material together, and a reading list with two and a half pages of additional works not referenced in the quotations of the volume itself, but for additional study.

It contains material from the Book of Forbidden Knowledge, Black Pullet, Petit Albert, Greater Key of Solomon, Clavicula Salomonis, Secrets of Black Arts!, Oriental Interpretation of Dreams, and dozens of others.

Popular Home Remedies and Superstitions: Of the Pennsylvania Germans: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This little work is a dense compilation of folklore and superstition from the Pennsylvania Germans, compiled partly from Hohmans' "Pow Wows" and from Albertus' Magnus "Egyptian Secrets". Some of the lore is obscure, some well known, and part of it is quasi-medicinal. The obviously skeptic author of the work makes numerous sarcastic remarks about the folk magick herein, and the foreword oddly criticizes him for that.

The Veil of Isis: Now Available!

If it's folklore you want it's folklore you get! This work starts out as a slightly dry, historical look at the druids, before becoming almost a completely different work which combines a bit of Masonic and Catholic pagan symbolism (the kind you find on the 'weird' side of the internet) with then-modern folklore both in and out of the British Isles. Considering the dedication passage it is likely that the work was written in two stages, accounting for this.

It speaks at length about all things druid for the first two sections before meandering into very interesting multi-page compilations of simple lore, with some poetry and folk magic included. The section on pins used in divination was of especial interest since this tradition indeed managed to find its way into multiple fortune telling works I myself have already edited.

Assamese Demonology: Now Available!

This booklet is a detailed study of some of the spirits and demonic forces within the local lore of the Assam region of India- for the geographically uninclined, the region far to the East, near the borders of Bangladesh and Burma. The local lore is rife with strange creatures- some more malevolent than others, some more dangerous and some more easily pacified. It contains a laundry list of exorcism practices as well which involve often burning various substances. Altogether extremely interesting. It amusingly contains a list of noted exorcists by region that is obviously outdated (anyone having been an adult in 1906 there being "probably" dead.)

Years End Petit Albert Update

As some of you may know, two years ago a hardcover and leather bound fine edition of the Petit Albert was produced by Ouroboros Press with yours truly having reworked the volume. The fact that a book bearing my name was truly, professionally produced in this manner is up there in the top five or so things I've accomplished that I am most proud of.

If you are interested in fine editions of this sort, the Petit Albert is one of the best grimoires- at once a compilation of folk spells and a receipt book (the predecessor of the modern term "recipe"- which originally included everything from folk medicine to culinary content to methods for removing stains or making candles or bird food) and comes from France, during the 18th century. It is a cosmopolitan grimoire, containing self-proclaimed foreign spells and tips of various sorts, and also touching on the hand of glory- one of the most famous (and diabolical) objects spoken of in any occult lore.

I have a copy of this work (one of only a few works I have physically obtained that I myself have worked on or released) and the quality is quite high. At 178 pages, it's a sometimes amusing, often thought provoking read.

The New Dream Book: Now Available!

This work is a bit longer and more fleshed out than some (even some fortune telling works.) Primarily a work of dream interpretation, it also covers prognostication by moles and card throwing, and contains a very simplified, extremely short oraculum of sorts that nonetheless does not follow any other prescribed method; due to its date of manufacture it might actually be the first work to utilize a chart-like grid oracle, which was then improved upon later.

As with other works of dream interpretation prior to the late pre-modern period (the forties and fifties mostly) its interpretations are used for fortune telling instead of, as is generally the case in the present, psychology and introspection. All around a great occult work!

Witchcraft Detected and Prevented: Now Available!

This work is a bit on the odd side because the title is utterly useless in determining its content; reading the title (which proposes the work to purely oppose witchery) and the preface, one would assume it's nothing more than Christian zeal or, at most, white magick. It is in fact based partly on the work of Magnus, partly on the Petit Albert (or some intermediary text) and partly on the fortune telling tradition of the late 1700s with the Norwood Gypsy and other content. As such, it is a bric-a-brac, a gray magick grimoire, and a miniaturized compiling of herbal and folk lore and magic, all combined with some protective incantations and plenty of superstition.

In fact, altogether, it almost rivals the Petit Albert or Hohman's "Pow Wows" for interest in my own opinion- this kind of work is uncommon, and extremely interesting. It also contains some basic chemical works (alchemy!) and weather prognostication with astrological overtones.

Herbal and Homeopathic Works: New Category Forthcoming

I am pleased to say I finally obtained enough material to begin rendering a series of works to print which will culminate in an entirely new category of literature which, after they are edited, will be listed on this blog; specifically, herbals, homeopathy, and similar works related to folk medicine and similar topics. Some of the titles are hereby listed:

Weeds Used in Medicine (1917)- An interesting and partly illustrated basic herbal.
South Sea Herbal (1715)- A short herbal with many illustrations.
The Treatment of Disease (1886)- An early scientific medical tract.
A Brief Treatise on Various Ailments (1890)- A list of diseases and their herbal remedies.
The Canadian Herbal (1851)- A longer medical tract with various remedies.
Dr Chases' Recipes (1866)- Remedies, herbs, quack medicine, and other material.
Occult Science in Medicine (1893)- Alchemy, astronomy, medicine, and more.
On Snake Bites and their Antidotes (1862)- An article on the obvious from the transactions of the philosophical society of New South Wales.

There are a half dozen other, much longer, works as well that I have acquired for release.

A Poll For You!

Up until now all of my releases have been self published paperbacks. What if I released, through a publisher of the arcane, a hardcover/fine binding edition of one of my works? Specifically, the work in question, the infamous Petit Albert of French fame? Of course, the softcover edition would remain available- it would be a licensed limited printing of my edition.

Have at it!

A Host of New Works I'll Be Working On

Little else makes me happier than acquiring new materials to edit and new ideas to write; honestly I think I've found my calling- or at least one of a more generally acceptable nature than analysis and banter on Youtube; admittedly, my latter effort is also skyrocketing in popularity. More copies of my literary works have sold in the first three days of October than were sold in the first four months of my editing back in 2015.

In the last few weeks I've been on an epic quest to bring in more literary content to release over time; and boy did the effort pay off; the following list is just a sampler of the things I'll be working through in addition to dozens of works I already had planned;

-Hull's "All About Devils": A short (60ish page) work of extremely zealous christian authorship.
-"Egyptian Secrets": Ascribed to Magnus but of the manufacture of deLaurence. A sort of Pow-wow style compilation work.
-"Gypsy Sorcery and Fortune Telling" by Leland- a quasi-academic work.
-"The Pedigree of the Devil" by Frederic Hall. A typical late 1800s spiritual-academic fusion.
-"Phallism in Ancient Worships" by Westropp and Wilder.
-The Kebra Nagast, an Ethiopian holy book.
-"Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry" by Yeats: A collection of often paranormal folklore.

The Book of Forbidden Knowledge: Now Available!

The Book of Forbidden Knowledge should in no way be judged based on its era and type of manufacture. A simple paperback released at the dawn of the 20th century, it's really more of a modern grimoire influenced by the Oracle/Napoleonic tradition than it is a hand guide of trickery typical of that late Victorian age.

Covering charms, talismans, fortune telling, prognostication, physiognomy, mesmerism, seances, and more, it's similar to Hohman's Pow Wows in the 1800s or the Petit Albert of the 1700s. That is to say, a compilation of many types of lore from multiple backgrounds; indeed the similarity it shares with these two works leads me to believe that it borrows some of its content from each. It's an extremely good work; far better than I expected when I first saw the cover and presumed it to be silly.

Hieroglyphical Fortune Teller: Now Available!

In a stroke of good luck I happened upon this work while researching the early 1900s Oraculum; the Dream Book version, as opposed to Tousey's far better Book of Fate version.

A slimmed down work, it contains an expansive oracle in place of Tousey's shorter oracle twain with other content. As a pure fortune telling manuscript, it revolves around asking one of 26 questions, then choosing one of 26 letters to represent the answer- this works better when ascribing the numbers 1 through 26 on a random number generator to this purpose, or when the letters have been placed on cards and turned facing down so the user is able to eliminate the possibility of guesswork based on prior usage (the original text merely instructs the user to choose a Hebraic symbol for their answer- useless if they have used it more than a few times.)

Altogether an interesting work.

Hohman's Pow Wows (or; Long Lost Friend)

Now that the Universal Fortune Teller of Mrs. Bridget is complete, it's time for a new edited work; and thankfully this time it's in semi-modern English and comes from the United States.

Hohman's "Pow Wows" has nothing at all to do with Mesoamerican ritualism; which is funny given the connotations of the title- instead, it's a fusion system between German ritualism (influenced, as I will explain, by French ritualism) and Americana, a Pennsylvania Dutch tradition from the dawn of the 1800s.

The work itself is about the same length as, and contains some material similar to, the Petit Albert of 1700s era French renown- in my estimation the French cycle has influenced the content of this work, based on its eerie level of similarity- although it is within the realm of possibility that the similarities are due to traditions which were simply popular enough to have spread around Europe; after all, there's no certainty that all content in the Petit Albert originated in France (indeed, it mentions Hungary and other regions explicitly for a few of its passages.) It's broken into similar sections and covers similar maladies such as the bite of mad dogs (rabies of course) and headaches, hysteria, and other conditions.

One part herbal, one part prayer/incantation booklet, and one part folkish tradition, this rivals the Petit Albert for "most in depth ritual system" I have ever edited. It is likely that I will list this with the grimoires, since that is essentially what it is, even if it is also technically a work of folk magick.

I expect that it will be around 110 to 120 pages when completed, and it's quite a nice work.

Napoleon's Oraculum - Now Available!

At long last one of the best writings ever made on the topic of fortune telling and divination is available. Having reviewed other variants of the work available for sale, they are all substantially more expensive and most are primitive facsimiles. My works are never facsimile copies and are always fully edited by hand. I'd by lying if I said I didn't feel proud of this slower, more thorough effort.

The Oraculum stands at 76 pages; some variants are longer because they're mostly filler or else contain the longer but less varied Oraculum of the 1890s- the latter version does not contain most of the vaguely folk-tradition spells and rites of this version. The 1884 Tousey version is also notable for its expansive section on dream interpretation; I happen to agree with most of his inclusions here over those made by new age groups and posted on the internet- his version of interpretation, whatever its source, is more authentic.

It's a fine work, made finer by being completely overhauled for a modern audience.
