Cistercian Legends of the 13th Century: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

The Cistercian order is one of great importance within the history of Catholicism. Their focus on hard work tended to uplift adjacent communities more than similarly constructed groups. The Cistercians, it seems, also had a very early hearty sense of humor (by the standards of the 13th century!) for some of their legends and tales involve tricking Satan, upstanding bishops and priests, and generally demonstrate their ascetic piety and charity.

This book relates a large number of tales, ranging from the humorous to the serious, and from the believable to the outright bizarre.

Symbolic Mythology: Now Available!

The author of this present work is notable for stream of consciousness style digests containing highly compressed information on spiritual subjects. This particular book is perhaps most useful for those interested in details about the symbolism of animals as applied to Judaism, early Christianity, and also, of course, Norse and Greek/Roman pagan systems. It contains as well a section on the use of rings as a symbol which seems to have spawned a full length title by the same author.

A Book of Giants: Now Available!

Mythology and legend is a great component of the occult and the study of the same arguably one of the more enjoyable. What could be better than tales of Norse giants? Tales of Norse giants alongside tales of giants in Homers' works and in the middle ages, twain with a short but sweet section at the end of this work on "real" giants (some lore of which is perfectly accurate!)

Technically speaking this work is fiction, but the recounting it does spills over into the specifically occult in its then-modern musings about the subject matter, and primarily comes from works either explicitly or implicitly religious in nature and overtone.

Ancient Cures, Charms, and Usages of Ireland: Now Available!

This particular book is an interesting combination of work that delves into folklore, civics, and what might be considered, beyond the strictly folkloric, spook stories, some of which are fairly fantastical in nature. Crafted at the end of the 19th century, it encourages the invasion of Ireland by the United States to liberate the island from British tyranny, and at great length condemns the English almost in entirety.

For occult purposes the lore of interest here is threefold; first, a treatment of simple remedies, often herbal or in the form of Christianized incantations. Second, fairy lore, significant in bulk. Third, folk stories involving both the dead and witches in a great deal of sometimes quite morbid detail. I must admit several of the stories about dead brides were bizarre even by my standards. It caps itself off with a nice little series of proverbs, which are sometimes religious.
