Investigations Into the Superphysical: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This short work by Annie Besant is a compressed basic overview of the then-present state ofthe Theosophical Society, some of its spiritual premises, and a few predictions of note from the contemporary period. It is notable in having been fundamentally correct about mankind undergoing drastic civilizational change in the imminent sense (the work does not far predate the roaring twenties after all) while positing a few reasons for this which very much fell out of favor- such as attempting to communicate with the spirits of the dead. It is one of a few true new age works from the time period.

Hints From the Hornograph: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This intriguing work is fairly obviously inspired in part by Blavatskys early Theosophical writings, and draws allegory between the Bible and then-modern events, prophecying the fall of Britain and the rise of the United States as a world power, establishing a (literal) church in Philadelphia- the actual city of residence of the pseudonymous author. It is richly linguistic (read; dense) and so will mainly be of interest to those who like language, hidden writing, and prophecy. Oddly, the prophecy did actually come true; the United States would, in only a few short decades, become a dominant power with the launch of the great white navy, the rise of art deco and the boom times of industry, and Britain would at the same time begin to fracture. Indeed when the language is dug into fairly deeply, it's surprisingly accurate.

God-Man: The Word Made Flesh: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This is a very interesting Theosophical work; at times rather confusing, with a lot of content which resembles a religious tract more than a coherent book. Nonetheless, its content is fairly straight-forward; it deals with the topic of sacred sexuality and biblical allegory, overlapped with biochemistry, utilizing the theory of "mineral salts" and their role in the human body. Abstaining from alcohol and sex is a common subtopic- although the work does not make it clear whether the latter should also take place within the confines of marriage. It quotes both the Christian Bible and Blavatsky, and also intertwines with elements of Hinduism such as the kundalini.

A History of Theosophy: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This book is an excellent primer on Theosophy; its origins, some of its major figures, and (most importantly) texts by Theosophists and about Theosophy. Colville ties the society itself in with similar movements such as the Rosicrucians and the work of people like Swedenborg. The secondary references are of great use for those interested in a single work from which they can find additional material and study the concept in more depth. The work has been fully illustrated by Raven Feather Illustrations.

The Immediate Future: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This interesting work is a series of lectures by Annie Besant, then leader of the Theosophical movement. The subjects of the transcribed lectures vary- mostly they relate to sociopolitics as further related to Theosophy- a particular Besant specialty. They speak of the rise of India and the enlightenment of civilization, a bit about Atlantis and root races, and the concepts of mindfulness and karma.

Initiation and its Results: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This interesting work by Rudolf Steiner is basically a follow-up to "The Way of Initiation", talking about the chakras, initiation process, the awakening of the serpent fire (Kundalini) and other such topics. It is more heavily Eastern-influenced than many of his latter texts and oratory.

The Way of Initiation: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This fine work is one of the most significant early works of the well-known Rudolf Steiner; one of the leaders of Theosophical thought before schisming from Annie Besants' faction and forming Anthroposophy. This text lists the steps of initiation in general and includes a fairly good autobiographical entry on Steiner himself, written by Edouard Schure. This inclusion is why I chose to edit from the second, rather than first, edition.

Life and Power From Within: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This fine work comes from the Theosophist and general occult aficionado W.J. Colville. It speaks about mental focus, psychology, mediumship, dreams, and other topics, in a manner derived not just from Theosophy at large but in reference to Swedenborgs' mysticism, Christianity writ large, and Freemasonry. It has been fully illustrated by Raven Feather Illustrations.

Kabbalah, The Harmony of Opposites: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

Kabbalah is one of the systems of mysticism which is of greatest interest to people, so I have completed several new works recently on the subject. Colville's edition, here, is a fairly broad one, ruminating on the mystic meaning of the Hebrew alphabet and number system, the Tree of Life, and other concepts within Jewish magical tradition. As Colville was associated with Theosophy and other orders, this book is a slightly Westernized but altogether coherent analysis of Kabbalah and its teachings.

Theosophy, a Collection: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This compiled volume includes nine different works of Theosophy for the purpose of general teaching about it and some of the subtopics of especial note among Theosophists in the earlier stages of the occult orders' existence. I have included a couple of good introductory works (by Judge and Dower) and then fleshed the subject out with additional material which involves a range of discussion; from human evolution, to the occidental-oriental debate, to the topic of vegetarianism and spirituality. The work includes, as always, a lengthy bibliography of additional works and an expansive foreword explaining the content and subject.

Included works:

-Occult Significance of Blood

-Echoes of the Orient

-The Ideals of Theosophy

-The Theosophy of Christ

-Vegetarianism in the Light of Theosophy

-The Roots of Ritualism in Church and Masonry

-The Life After Death and How Theosophy Unveils It

-The Stanzas of Dzyan

-Occultism for Beginners

The Roots of Ritualism in Church and Masonry: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This little text is one of Helena Blavatsky's better writings- a short and largely linguistic work remarking upon some Christian and Masonic terminology and noting the overlap between them. It initially comes from an essay in "Lucifer" (a Theosophical magazine, not to be confused with the devil!) and was also included in a latter work compiling some essays by the author.

Nirvana: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This full length work is essentially comprised of three things; the authors' own personal experiences with Nirvana and "Buddhi" (which are sometimes theatrical and poetic), a bit about the history of the concept and its usage in more authentic Buddhist paths (as opposed to even modern misinterpretations, often by hippies who are spiritually clueless), and finally a lengthy appendix, partly academic, and contributed to by both Charles Leadbeater and Annie Besant. The book is quite well made, and contains a bit of romantic-era poetry to illustrate some of its points.

The Gates of Knowledge: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This short work is a transcribed lecture by Rudolf Steiner, mostly about self awareness and mindfulness and their usage, but also contains a (strangely unrelated) short lecture on the nature of philosophy, especially related to Aristotle. It should be noted that this work comes from a time when Steiner was still a Theosophist, before leaving the movement to form what became Anthoposophy.

Man and His Bodies: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

As a social reform text as much as an occult one, this Theosophical work by Annie Besant speaks about the spiritual ills posed by alcoholism and other vices, and gives various social and behavioral remedies, elsewhere talking mainly about the ascent capable for the human spirit, and the different levels of that ascent.

The Riddle of Life, and How Theosophy Answers it: Now Available!

This little text is fairly self explanatory. Written by Besant, it encourages increased self control and self awareness, as a method to ascend spiritually and mentally, and speaks a bit about karma and the different planes of existence past the physical world.

Demonosophy Unmasked: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This work is a categorical refutation of Theosophy and its practices from the background of fire and brimstone early 20th century Christian rigor. At times, the specific arguments made are hilarious (that Theosophy causes demon possession via spiritualism- despite seances and the like being generally and repeatedly debunked in both the contemporary and latter sense.) Some of the other arguments make more sense, and it's important to provide a critical counter-balance since I have edited several dozen works by Theosophists themselves. It is half-jokingly dedicated to someone I debated recently, who hates Theosophy but is also a socialist/communist (they are fundamentally the same) even though works like this often attacked Theosophy as well, but also because it was in part derived at times from socialist rhetoric by the likes of Annie besant.

The Astral Plane: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

Leadbeaters' work on the astral plane is an interesting (and sometimes bizarre) work of Theosophy, arranging the plane above normal physical existence into seven levels and detailing the inhabitants therein; there are human souls, the shades of the dead, thought-forms, and even beings loosely pre-defined as elementals or as cryptozoological (such as gnomes and undines.) Devas, and other incarnations above mankind, are taken out of their initial divine or semi-divine role in Eastern lore and are spoken of as being in the higher levels of the astral world. Vampires (in the psychic sense) and werewolves are also mentioned.

Divine Heritage of Man: Now Available!

This little text is a Vedanta work, one of a number created during the period; it is from the Hindu path, and forms a very interesting counterpart to Western movements such as Theosophy, which always stated or insinuated the primacy of Christ and Christianity, while admitting Eastern enlightenment and inter-mixing some of Hindu and Buddhist lore into their system. This work, and others by the same author, do the opposite, and subjugate Christ to the Vedanta system by asserting an older origin (which is historically accurate) and similarities (which sometimes are accurate, sometimes less so.) The nature of divinity and of mans' relation to it are explored in depth.

The Devachanic Plane: Now Available!

This work is essentially in two parts; the first part describes, more or less, the ascending rupa and arupa layers of the Theosophical concept of Devachan- the locale where the self rests between physical incarnations- and the second part describes the various human and non-human entities therein, such as manifested thought-forms, devas, etc.

Dharma: Now Available!

This short work is another oratory by Annie Besant, delivered in India, and talks at length about Dharma; what it is, the origins of its concept, and its relation especially to the Hindu caste system. Besant importantly denotes that the acquisition of negative karma differs in different stages of spiritual advancement, to lesser or greater degree. Through many lives the individual of course seeks to move upward towards Ishvara.
