Christisis: Now Available!

CLICK TO PURCHASE

This text is one of Reuben Clymers' initiatory manuscripts, and is literally branded as being involved with the Illuminati- the teachings are somewhat easily understood; that there is a sort of enlightened age coming, and that people can ascend spiritually and mentally through a combination of self control, self awareness, and varied practice- this "Christisis" concept is both a quasi-theistic figure and an internalized, psychological and mystic concept. While it stresses belief in the specifically Christian god, it also recommends Eastern exercises related to proper breathing, meditation, etc.

A Series of Lessons in Gnani Yoga: Now Available!

This is one of Atkinsons' three works on the subject of Yoga, specifically in this edition, Gnani (or Jnani) yoga, one of the main parts of the system.

The book is well written and very interesting, but it ought to be noted that unlike the prior title on Raja yoga, this work is much more philosophical than how-to, and is clearly and purely a Western look at yoga, as opposed to one which more closely resembles an Eastern derivation of the system. I am not sure why Atkinson completely inverted his style for these two works, but it is definitely interesting anyways; two entire sections are solely on the subject of biology, evolution, and the ascent of life forms, and ends up comparing that process to the ascent of spiritual understanding.

A Series of Lessons in Raja Yoga: Now Available!

This fine work on Raja (or royal) yoga was created by Yogi Ramacharaka- a pseudonym (it is generally held) for William Atkinson. it's quite good, and much more hands-on and instructional than many works, which tend towards mere philosophy. The ultimate goal is increased awareness, especially of the self but also in general, and exercises in mental focus and attention. Atkinson wrote two other full length works on Yoga; specifically Gnani (or Jnani) and Hatha yoga. I am editing them as well.

Exposition of the Doctrine of Karma: Now Available!

This book is a nice analysis of the idea of karma, from a specifically Theosophical perspective. The authors' name is a pseudonym so it isn't entirely clear which theosophist actually compiled the materials here. It's a more legitimate take on the subject than much literature about karma- often it is boiled down to a simplified, singular idea and ideas like national or group karma are deliberately overlooked because they (in truth) don't make sense under the concepts of Western thought.

It manages to avoid the overtly new-age style of some then contemporary manuscripts which devolve into talking about psychic forces and other things which were in vogue at the time, and contains a good bit of religious history, to boot.

The Yoga Aphorisms of Patanjali: Now Available!

This little work is comprised of a series of short statements on the Yogic system by the enigmatic figure of Patanjali, as analyzed and interpreted (using a prior translation) by Theosophist William Q. Judge. The actual subtopics are numerous; mystic powers, reincarnation, meditation, and so forth. It should be noted that Judges' surmising in the preface with regards to Patanjali is still debatable; it is not certain whether the author of the aphorisms listed here was involved with non-mystic materials, although Judges' opinion is that the latter involves a different individual.

The Hindu Yogi Science of Breath: Now Available!

This book here is mostly authentic breathing exercises from Hindu lore (some of which are taught by Yogis today quite frequently) but the author was *probably* William Atkinson, a New Thought author and publisher thought to be the hand behind works listed under the auspices of a "Yogi Ramacharaka"- indeed the introduction deconstructs the concept of a Yogi and excuses the use of the term by those not entirely encompassed by Hinduism at large.

It's well made; the exercises are fairly simple and mostly used to increase health and physical vigor, although it also mentions the mental and psychic.

The Hidden Treasures of the Ancient Qabalah: Now Available!

This is a nice little work but the title is slightly misleading; while it speaks about Kabbalah it is a Theosophical manuscript (a transcription of oratory) which ties the same in to alchemy, yoga, and certain Christian and Buddhist tenets of spirituality. It is well written, and about half of it actually comprises a sort of social tract which speaks about inter-sex relationships, ethics, and then-modern culture.

The Hindu Book of Astrology: Now Available!

The Hindu Book of Astrology is slightly mistitled- it is indeed a Western astrological work with some Eastern fusion within its pages; that hardly detracts from the content, since texts from this era tended to do that quite often, especially with Hinduism.

It includes all the signs of the Zodiac, the cusps, the colors, gems, diseases, and so forth of each sign, within a fairly rudimentary framework, and then encourages the reader to relax and study other aspects of the occultism. The Zodiac may be seen as largely a positive one, which is more fixated on elaboration on the positive aspects than dwelling on the negative.
